About

Hi, I'm Chris.

I do search marketing for small businesses around Bryan and College Station. Not a team, not an agency floor. If you hire me, I am the person doing the work and the person you call when you want to know what happened.

The name

It means two things.

The obvious one is showing up first. That is the job, and it is what most people assume when they hear it.

The one that matters more is the order things happen in. You hit your numbers before I hit mine. That sounds like a slogan until you see what it costs: it is why the prices are published rather than shaped to what you can afford, why everything runs month to month, and why I will tell you when the answer is to spend your money somewhere other than with me.

How this started

April 2021, in an efficiency apartment.

My fiancee's, now my wife's. I had a marine biology degree and a job administering software at a medical clinic at Texas A&M, which is not the standard route into any of this.

What that job actually involved was being the person who made a system work for people who did not want to think about the system. That is most of what I do now. A business owner does not want to learn what a canonical tag is. They want the phone to ring and somebody to handle the part that makes it ring.

I wanted the freedom that comes with owning the business you work in. It turned out the version of that I actually enjoyed was helping other people get the same thing for themselves.

Why here

Texas has more than three cities.

The agency business in this state clusters in Houston, Austin and Dallas, and it prices for those markets. Which leaves a lot of real businesses in places like Bryan, College Station, Temple and Killeen choosing between a national outfit that has never been here and a budget that assumes big-city margins.

I live here. I know which streets people actually mean when they say a part of town, which businesses have been around long enough to be the default answer, and how much of the year runs on a university calendar. None of that is a proprietary process. It is just knowing the place your customers live in.

Who I work with

Mostly businesses under ten people.

Owner-run, local, and at the point where word of mouth has taken them as far as it can on its own. Across a fairly wide spread of industries, because the mechanics of local search do not change much between them.

  • Barbershops
  • Counseling and mental health
  • Roofing
  • Insurance
  • Oil and gas services
  • Auto detailing
  • Software

A counseling practice I started with in January 2026 saw clicks to their site rise by half over the first three months. Clicks, not revenue, and one client is not a pattern, but it is the kind of movement the first quarter usually looks like when the foundation was never built properly the first time.

How I work

One person, and a cap that comes with it.

I take a limited number of clients because one person can only do this properly for so many businesses at once. When there is more work than I can carry, I bring in specialists I trust rather than stretch thinner, and the work still comes back through me before it reaches you.

Everything is month to month, and you own every account and every login. If this stops being worth your money, you leave and nothing has to be handed back or rebuilt. That arrangement suits a certain kind of business owner and not everybody, which is the honest version of what you are choosing between.

Questions

The ones I actually get asked.

Who actually does the work?

I do. Every audit, every page, every profile, every campaign. There is no account manager, no junior taking over after the sale and no offshore team. When the volume needs more hands I have specialists I bring in, but the work stays mine to answer for.

How many clients do you take?

A limited number, because one person can only do this properly for so many businesses at once. If I am full I will say so rather than take the money and stretch. It is the honest constraint of working this way and it is also the reason the work does not get handed down.

Do you only work with businesses in Bryan and College Station?

It is where most of my clients are and where I know the market, but I work across Central Texas and have clients in Fort Worth and Tyler. What matters more than the pin on the map is whether your customers have to be near you to buy from you.

What did you do before this?

I have a marine biology degree and spent years as a software administrator at a medical clinic at Texas A&M. Neither is the usual route into search marketing. Both involved being the person who had to make a system work for people who did not want to think about the system, which turns out to be most of this job.

Why should I trust a one-person business with my marketing?

The fair version of that question is what happens if I am unavailable. You own every account, every login and everything built, so nothing is locked to me. Beyond that, working month to month means you can leave the moment it stops being worth it, which is a stronger guarantee than a contract with a small business attached to it.
